D&G Spring 2011 Men’s

Italian designers Dominico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana certainly know how to take us on a journey, from last season’s trip to Aspen they moved on to the Eastern Seaboard as inspiration for their Spring 2011 showing for D&G.
The Americana influences could be traced as early as the first look, a look that included a Hawaiian shirt, a staple in so many men’s wardrobes. I give the designers credit for making it better than almost all of the previous Hawaiian shirts I’ve seen, even though that shouldn’t have been a hard task. The American influences came ever more apparent with the second look. This look included a green-checked bomber jacket that looked like it was cut out of the fabric from a picnic blanket. The more localized Eastern Seaboard influences popped up with a red, cable-knit sweater tied around the neck over a red gingham shirt. The show was done in an array of classically American fabrics ranging from seersucker to denim. I would like to give credit to the designers, again, for making some of the most wearable denim separates during the Milan leg of Spring 2011 fashion week.
The collection was perfect for the Mad Men‘s Don Draper when he wanted to look casual but put together (Janie Bryant take note). Don Draper wouldn’t be the only one perfect for this collection, today’s man would look classic and superb in any pieces from this collection.
