Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2011 Men’s

For their 20th anniversary collection, Dominico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana celebrated in a truly befitting way – with a collection inspired by their Sicilian roots. They also had the legendary artist Annie Lennox to play the piano for their runway music.

The collection showcased clothing for every facet of the Italian man’s life, wherever he resides, be it the countryside, the middle of the city, or on the docks of Sicily. You could wear one of the several suits including an easy white one for taking a passeggiata – an evening walk – or a sharp, black one to wear to a black tie affair. You could choice the woven leather jackets, rugged knits, and ripped denim jeans to look modern and youthful any day of the week. They even showed an array of undergarments that you can wear underneath the rest of the clothes. Accessories like bags and the recurring rope theme shown on belts and sandals complemented the clothes beautifully.

The showing was mostly completed in a neutral palette, the recurring palette used by many Milanese brands including Costume National, Corneliani, and Alexander McQueen . Interest was added with a a handful of looks including pajamas, shorts, and shirts, that were made in pinstripe and other striped patterns.

Overall this was a very nice collection but it left a question in my mind, “Do you think they are pleasing their customer just to please their customer, or are they just fresh out of ideas?” It seems to me that a 20th anniversary collection should be a little bit more wild, especially after 20 of the wildest years in fashion.
