Vivienne Westwood Spring 2011 Men’s

High energy and full of life, Vivenine Westwood draws up the scenario of the manic last days of life on earth. Seeing as it would not be a true Westwood collection with a little added extra, men are portrayed as dolls, now gone berserk.
Arriving at galaxy prints which appeared on tank tops and round-neck shirts, Westwood states, “maybe we’re just like a star, at the end of its life it burns brighter and brighter before it goes out”. Continuing on with this deeper pre-apocalyptic concept in a playful and relaxed manner, the designer channeled broken broken glass using reflective fabrics, forming drawstring swim trunks in metallics with mirrors creating penises at crotch. A cardigan was seen with key-hole rips all about, made to look as if it were mercilessly torn, while outdoor table umbrellas are used as props, taking the place of the standard.
Building up looks with a myriad of patterns, as Westwood is well known for, we see plaids mix with stripes when striped suspenders take to check patterned high-waisted trousers.
Lighting up the structure of your run-of-the-mill tailored suit by cropping jackets, and placing plaid shirts underneath as it’s base, Westwood proves that times are changing and life in present day can still be enjoyed while embracing classics.
