Gucci’s classic jet-set emblems were on full display at Frida Giannini’s Spring 2011 showing for the brand. The clothes on display in Milan were perfect for the man hopping from Rome to Marrakesh and to even farther reaches of the globe.

The nonchalant elegance that reigned at Gucci’s show was what every man wants: simple and chic. A prime example of the easy going collection was the suit worn with pulled sleeves with a scarf tied around the elbow, and topped off with moccasins.

Other standout pieces included a chocolate brown safari suit, a rawhide leather jacket, the suede-front cardigan, the Indian-embroidered denim shirt, and a silk jacquard evening jacket. The clothes could be worn at any time, any where, all summer long.

Mark Ronson is at it again. On Wendsday, the musician amoung many others celebrated the second stop in a four city tour for the musician’s collaboration with Gucci on a limited edition concept flash sneaker store.

If you have been a longtime follower of the site, you will know that Mark Ronson has been on my radar, and I like to pay close attention to what he wears. For some time now, we have seen the DJ making bold steps in Gucci pieces, most of which coming from the glam rock inspired Fall 2009 collection. As anticipation built for the launch of Wednesday’s Icon-Temporary launch, I was eagerly waiting to see if Mark would do what seems to be impossible for him, and let go of Fall 2009 and step into Spring 2010.

Arriving to the opening of the flash store in a white cotton honey comb half net lined palma jacket with matching pants, Ronson certainly did not let me down, as the suit was one of the statement making opening looks to the Gucci Spring 2010 collection.

As most of you might now, Mark has a knack for mixing and matching pieces, instead of wearing the complete runway look. That being, the Dj went back to the house’s Fall 2009 show and opted to replace the runway’s grey helikite printed muslin skinny shirt with a black and white polka dot button-up that featured a contrast collar. Perfectly matching his very own self-designed sneakers.

The Night’s Looks

Ben Hudson – Gucci Fall 2009

Ben Hudson (aka Mr. Hudson) may have beaten Mark at being the first to be spotted out in the Gucci Spring 2010 collection, but the British R&B/pop artist looked to one of Ronson’s favorite collections for his look of the night.

Taking a very daring risk, Hudson does it anything but play it safe in a glimmering lurex suit, initially presented on the runway only as single-breasted jacket. Changing the runway skinner scarf to a fuller red.

Matthew Stone – Gucci Spring 2010

Known to make runway mixes for Garth Pugh runway presentations, fellow British DJ Matthew Stone joined Ronson in his Spring 2010 conquest.

Wearing the red optical two tone palma evening jacket with matching pants that closed the Gucci Spring 2010 show, Stone surly made it his mission to stand out that night, even if he turned the runway’s red v-neck into a black button-up.

Geordon Nicol – Gucci Spring 2010

Also along for the Spring 2010 ride, Misshapes member Geordon Nicol takes a page from the collection’s use of blue. Pairing an indigo silk v-neck and cotton stretch skinny pants, with a black and cobalt inca pattern silk and wool scarf. Completing his look with black leather sole moccasins that feature dark blue snakeskin, light grey leather, and dark grey crocodile.

Patrick Wolf – Gucci Fall 2009

Following the launch of the store at the after party for the night’s festivities, held in Soho at the renowned Jazz club Ronnie Scotts, English singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf not only preformed, but also wore a suit once worn by man of the night Mark Ronson.

Wearing a blue micro-houndstooth Gucci Fall 2009 suit that featured black zips and buttons, the musician gave Ronson a run for his money, as Mark was spotted in the suit last year attending his sister’s Spring 2010 runway showing.

Theophilus London & Sam Sparro – Gucci Fall 2009

Also attending and performing at the after party for the Icon-Temporary launch, music men Theophilus London and Sam Sparro both alike wore Fall 2009 looks once worn by Ronson.

Keeping cool, calm, and causal, Theophilus opted to only where the jacket to the collection’s salt & pepper shadow bouclé skinny suit. Sparro went classic wearing a simple union poplin skinny shirt that was worn by Mark on three separate occasions, under a timeless black suit.

Back in January, the Gucci Fall 2010 show was once of my most coveted of the season. Following her turn to glam rock in Fall ’08, to her her clean and refreshing Spring 2010 showing, Frida Gianini is clearly on a roll and I would be lying if I say I’m not a fan.

While designers like John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier frequently like to tie in theatrics and heavy make-up into their presentations, you can always be certain to count on Gucci for a freshly washed face, lightly touched up to achieve an all around natural look.

That being, when I ran into d-management’s Matthew Hitt after the show, it was nice to see that he was not caked in make-up.

While everyone was in a rush and a few models stuck around, some waiting for others, chatting it up outside, and others smoking, Matthew was pretty chill. Being a fan of his street style, I certainly wasn’t disappointed to see that the slightly cold weather didn’t leave him compromised, as he stuck to a basic black zip bomber, plaid scarf, black skinnies, and knit shirt over a white tee.

From glam rock in ’08 to golden in ’010, Frida Giannini wraps up the almost 90 year Gucci heritage in 44 looks. Still injecting the brand with that special extra coolness that came attached to her when was first named creative director of the house, back in 2006.

Going for the ‘typical’ fall colors, without paying homage to wildlife (unlike Etro); a color palette of rich browns, camel, and navy get the job done this season. In a much more refined direction from last year’s David Bowie inspired Gucci man, there was more of a focus on technique, less on acid trip prints of polka dot and checkerboard squares. Instead, traditional prints/patterns were seen on scarves and on knits. With even the season’s soon to be ‘must-have bag’ going simpler, and just displaying the classic Gucci stripe. A little intermingling logo action here and there.

Though we are no longer stuck in the ’80s with Bowie, you can now find yourself a decade earlier in the ’70s. Pairing almost everything, from wool coat to wool blazer, with a cropped/cuffed pant or fine-gauge turtleneck.

Unexpected color blocking also making an appearance at points, a half mohair knit/half suede sweater that would have normally been done in a bulky and generic H&M way, was made desirable again in it’s almost perfect shrunken fit. A fit mimicked throughout much of the show. Appearing even on cropped trousers that were equipped with little button closures at it’s bottom.

Honestly speaking, going into this Fall 2010 season, I was truly a bit nervous to see if Frida Giannini would drop the whole slim-fit look. A sense of dress that eventually brought us to a mystifying part-pant/part-legging combo. But seeing as it’s still alive and well, what’s not to about the Gucci man? Mark Ronson will certainly be pleased.

It’s been a little over a week since I first told you of Mark Ronson’s love affair with the Gucci Fall 2009 collection. Well since that time, the DJ has struck again. Still with good reason of course. With the launch of his first Icon-Temporary sneaker boutique taking place within his last Gucci outing during Paris Fashion week, Ronson continues to leave barely any look from the Glam Rock inspired Fall 09 Gucci collection safe.

Which makes me wonder if he would foam at the mouth if he were to ever find out that the English R&B/pop artist, Mr. Hudson, was the first to be spotted out in the house’s Spring 2010 collection...

October 29 – Known already to put his own spin on the looks that have seen the spotlights of the runway, at the “Music Unites Fall Masquerade Gala” which honored Ronson and Georgina Chapman, the musician broke up all of the black shown on the runway and instead pairs his glittered woven single breasted bowie evening jacket over the very same union poplin skinny shirt that he has been spotted in twice before.

October 23 – Channeling the perfect feel of his current sneaker collection and swapping out the runway’s pony tassel moccasins with his own nautical inspired sneakers, a personal touch is added to a salt & pepper shadow bouclé skinny suit.

Making for an unexpected combo.

October 22 - The night before, at the Fashion Group International’s 26th annual Night Of Stars, Ronson showed an ever dapper side than usual…which speaks volumes since you’ve seen what he’s done in the past.

Losing the black visage striped legging evening pants, which were spotted on Leandro Maeder in V Magazine recently, Mark cleans up the bad boy image and opts out for a more traditional pant, but still keeps a level of coolness with a few glittery details on the jacket and visage print on the tie.

I’m keeping my eyes peeled for more Ronson outings, since I’m sure Gucci will most defiantly be involved.

Mark Ronson – Dj, music producer, artist, co-founder of Allido Records…Gucci fanatic. If you were to recently team up with Gucci’s current creative designer Frida Giannini, you would most likely fall head over heels in love with the brand too.

Due to launch an Icon-Temporary flash sneaker store that will travel throughout the world this month, Mark Ronson displays his love for Gucci in more ways than one. By designing a line of sneakers purely up his alley, capturing a clever mix of edge and prep.

September 21 - Attending the Pringle of Scotland Spring 2010 show during London Fashion Week, Ronson does the unthinkable and shows up in another designer. Gucci, of course. Which on any other day, with any other person would be seen as a crime.

Wearing a two-button Gucci printed suit featuring thin lapels, Ronson ditched the pink and stripes from the runway show and instead re-wore the same shirt and tie combo as he did a little over a week before.

September 16 – Making it all look so effortless, showing up at the Gucci cocktail party for Ffawn and a screening of “The Invention of Lying” both on the same night, here Ronson strips apart a suit and wears only the red polka dot button-up. Tucked into his skinnies and under a leather bomber jacket. Which I’m sure made Frida Ginanni a very happy woman that night.

Mark must have loved this look so much, because he recently wore it again just during Paris Fashion Week, to a Louis Vuitton event.

September 11 – Taking a walk on the wild side to support his sister Charlotte, to the showing of her Spring 2010 collection, the DJ stepped outside of the box and into a blue micro-houndstooth suit. Changing up the styling of the runway look once more.

Which just so happens to be my favorite look of his.

July 19 – Channeling his inner Elvis in a lush blue velvet suit, Ronson performs with Duran Duran in concert at the Lovebox Weekender, at Victoria Park. Making for the modern mans take on glam rock.

Giving the old heave-ho to the runway styling yet again.

July 3 - Arriving to the 2009 Glamour Women of the Year Awards, Ronson shows up in what I like to call, “the grey checkered suit that started it all”. Before this point in time, the Gucci Fall 2009 men’s collection never made it’s way on over to Mark Ronson.

This time swapping out the tie and shoes to make the look his own.

Eye for style or insane infatuation? You decide.

Frida Giannini’s ideal man, the easiest way possible to sum up what was seen on the Gucci runway. By the looks of it, Giannini has her eyes set on a young and modern athletic man, with a a hankering for the finer things in life. With the countless jackets and coats that paraded down the catwalk, the latest Gucci man might have a little trouble regulating a stable body temperature or is mildly concerned about global warming and why it has been raining so much as of late.

Whatever he might have in mind, the apparently indestructible designs displayed today will be sure to take him through the toughest of times.

Her current choice of colors may not drive you wild with excitement, but the fresh whites, soothing grays, and occasional black certainly do guarantee longevity. As we usually take increased temperatures first into consideration when it comes to global warming, Giannini also has not forgotten the man’s need to fight off other elements to come.

Left up to Frida, patent leather jackets in black, white, and gray will serve as one form as protection. As will the slight segment of multicolored knit tops and array of scarves. Gucci Spring 2010 - battling weather and enjoying life, all whilst wearing a well crafted jacket.

For Fall 2009 Frida Giannini did what Frida Giannini does best, putting her edgy rocker design aesthetic to good use – the collection can easily be viewed as rock meets punk & pop. Pants so snug to the point were they could mistakenly be seen as leggings and leopard-print knits that are sure to rival any animal out it the wild, made the collection fall short of nothing that people don‘t want at the moment.

Though the concept of a rock-chic man may not be new in today’s world of men’s fashion, the quality and design behind each piece that came down the Milan runway left for a lot to be desired.

As the show opened with a series of suits and shirts ranging in color, yet all coming together with there white collars – it wasn’t clear at first where the collection were to be heading. When the fourth and sixth looks made it’s way down the darkened runway, the direction in which the presentation was to take it’s turn became more present. Slim-fit pants, skinny ties, fresh furs, and cropped jackets all marked Frida’s vision of an edgy business man.

As the financial burden stresses those at work, the Fall 2009 Gucci man still knows how to celebrate life and isn’t at all brought down by hardship.
