Mark Ronson & Gucci Fall 2009 – The Love Affair Continues On

It’s been a little over a week since I first told you of Mark Ronson’s love affair with the Gucci Fall 2009 collection. Well since that time, the DJ has struck again. Still with good reason of course. With the launch of his first Icon-Temporary sneaker boutique taking place within his last Gucci outing during Paris Fashion week, Ronson continues to leave barely any look from the Glam Rock inspired Fall 09 Gucci collection safe.

Which makes me wonder if he would foam at the mouth if he were to ever find out that the English R&B/pop artist, Mr. Hudson, was the first to be spotted out in the house’s Spring 2010 collection...

October 29 – Known already to put his own spin on the looks that have seen the spotlights of the runway, at the “Music Unites Fall Masquerade Gala” which honored Ronson and Georgina Chapman, the musician broke up all of the black shown on the runway and instead pairs his glittered woven single breasted bowie evening jacket over the very same union poplin skinny shirt that he has been spotted in twice before.

October 23 – Channeling the perfect feel of his current sneaker collection and swapping out the runway’s pony tassel moccasins with his own nautical inspired sneakers, a personal touch is added to a salt & pepper shadow bouclé skinny suit.

Making for an unexpected combo.

October 22 - The night before, at the Fashion Group International’s 26th annual Night Of Stars, Ronson showed an ever dapper side than usual…which speaks volumes since you’ve seen what he’s done in the past.

Losing the black visage striped legging evening pants, which were spotted on Leandro Maeder in V Magazine recently, Mark cleans up the bad boy image and opts out for a more traditional pant, but still keeps a level of coolness with a few glittery details on the jacket and visage print on the tie.

Once inside, Mark sat side-by-side next to the brains behind the very creations that he can’t seem to get enough of. Gucci’s accessory designer turned creative designer, Frida Giannini. Photo Courtesy of Billy Farrell/PatrickMcMullan.com

I’m keeping my eyes peeled for more Ronson outings, since I’m sure Gucci will most defiantly be involved.

Shop The Shows – Lanvin Fall 2009 Wool & Leather Boots

Have you ever fallen in love with something that you’ve seen come down a runway, only to later develop an extreme urge to have it? Well worry no more. Seeing that the virtual shelves of our favorite online stores are constantly being restocked with the latest in all (most) of your runway delights, I’ve decided to keep track.

While taking to one of my personal favorite designer goods sites, mytheresa.com, I took note of their “Shop the Shows” feature. Since they only sell the most current in womenswear and we all know that menswear happens to be fashion’s underdog, Homme Times now brings you a brand new feature.

Duvetica Fall 2009/10 – 1,001 Ways to Wear a Patent Jacket

As the weather continues to drop for some, or at least the rain for those us in New York, chic alternatives to your Spring/Summer wardrobe are needed at the moment. In most cases, Fall is dubbed the increasingly awkward stage in dressing. Reason being – it’s usually not too cold to wear your full-on “fight the snow/cold” get-up, but it’s not all that warm to not think about doing so.

In Duvetica’s Fall 2009 collection, the Italian brand best known for their unbelievable way of adding shape to a down jacket and make a typically unflattering coat into something edgy and worth a wear, a play on the new idea of “luxury today” is present.

Shot by Alessandro Bencini, their latest lookbook Shows luxe leathers and 100% nylon jackets paired with paint stained and ripped jeans. All of which bringing back elements of “fashion deconstruction”, seen throughout recent seasons (see Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 and Dior Homme Spring 2009).

Though the look is still pretty hard to pull off, a patent jacket will this season help to bridge that awkward gap known as the “transitional period”.

10 Rules of Style From Kris Van Assche

At the helm of one of the industries most noted names and responsible for putting together a grand total of 6 shows a year, including both menswear and womenswear, in the current issue of DETAILS magazine, Kris Van Assche displays a side unseen during the few short moments when he takes his bow as creative director of Dior Homme each season.

From grooming to his thoughts on taking over a house practically built by Hedi Slimane, the designer offers up ‘10 Rules of Style’ worth a read. Setting the record straight and clearing up a few preconceived notions that may have lingered before. Even tackling your body and whether or not you should put it into a pair of leather pants.

1. A lot of fashion houses design for the catwalk and not the street—then you see the clothes on a regular guy and it’s a mess. Don’t disguise your personality behind labels; impose it on the clothes.

2. The most embarrassing thing a man can own is a disposable razor. They’re for women. And speaking of grooming, there’s nothing less flattering than shaved legs.

3. Wearing a pair of high-tops with a suit deconstructs the look, and that’s important. I like the way high-tops and pants act together. It’s like the effect of rolled-up sleeves for your trousers. Just make sure the socks match your sneakers, not the pants. If you like black high-tops, wear black socks. White, white.

4. I don’t really think I know a man who wouldn’t look good in black. Black is always good. It’s the basic.

5. You can wear a white shirt to work, to dinner, to visit the grandmother, to the opera, on vacation, at the beach. It’s the true get-away-with-anything item.

6. There’s definitely an age limit for wearing leather pants, but not for wearing leather jackets. A standout fashion leather jacket can look great on a young guy. And there are a lot of suedes that men can get away with at any age.

7. Don’t just copy an outfit. Look in the mirror and do a reality check. It’s all about making the good match. You’ll know when something is right. And if you don’t, just walk down the street: If people look away from you, then you know you’ve done something wrong.

8. When I took over Dior Homme, I was warned. I knew it was going to be tough—but it was worse. In life you need good friends, and at work you need a good team. There’s so much drama in life and work that you can easily get lost. You need to keep a little distance from everything.

9. We’ve had beefy guys and we’ve had—well, skinny isn’t really the right word, it’s more like scary. Now men should be athletic, healthy. Today it’s about having a balance in life—having nice clothes, good food, and respecting your body.

10. My grandmother told me there are two ways of living: You can either survive or you can really make a life. There is eating and there is dining. She would always give that extra little effort, and I still believe that is important—to make things more beautiful makes all the difference.
