Prada Spring 2010 – “First Spring” by Yang Fudong

Drawing inspirational from black & white movies and the few shades in between the two colors for her Spring 2010 collection, Miuccia Prada does only what is fitting to showcase such a collection. Enlisting Chinese artist Yang Fudong to translate her notable mesh pieces into a short contemporary film, now up on the Prada website.

Featuring the face’s of the houses current campaign, Jacob Coupe and Adrien Sahores, like modern spies transported into traditional ancient China, giving off an almost film noir vibe. Though not a word is spoken throughout the film, the power of the nearly 10 minute films runs deep.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 Men’s

The calm before the storm or the beauty in a blizzard, either way you look at Christopher Bailey’s Fall 2010 collection for Burberry Prorsum is something to get excited about.

As snow fell in a Burberry check pattern on screens surrounding the runway and the show streamed live all across the internet, classic met contemporary and formed one of this season’s best bonds.

Creating a wide range of looks that virtually it impossible to leave anyone out in the cold (be it prep or punk), shearling is once again given a second chance at life. Adorned with leather finishing, straps, and little golden buttons, Spring 2010′s strapped shirts graduate into Pre-Fall’s military toned collection, and now mature into the modern man’s world of winter. A world where boots rule and are at times distressed or lined for extra warmth, and bags over-sized to fit an ever-growing schedule. Never have a wanted a bag more than the one’s seen come down the runway, contrasted against some of the industries freshest faces.

Proving that there is more to creating a well thought out basic than meets the eye, it is all the little details that matter, and in end add up to the bigger picture. From the cropped coat which can be zipped to made longer, to the perfect combination of hard and soft, I would certainly by far dub the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 menswear show Milan’s best.

Jil Sander Fall 2010 Men’s

Always one to find the right balance between wearablity and originality, for Fall 2010 Raf Simons takes to his pre-school days and with with shapes (literally). In the form of meticulously cut jackets and ribbed knits, shape and form and the two major points on the Jil Sander agenda this season, as with any other Raf produced show.

Lining up a cast of runway regulars and dipping back into a few colors that we have all come to expect by now, last fall’s nipped in waists get traded in for rounded flaps and detailing that give off a sense of relaxed armor. Appearing throughout the show in more of a 3-d version on jackets and coats, if at the moment you are wondering how you would close such a jacket, subtle hook closures help do the trick. Helping to make your next winter a little more dapper, warm, and edgy…all in one move.

Kanye West Goes Shopping in Balmain Homme Fall 2009

Already spotted out in runway looks from both Dior Homme and Yves Saint Laurent, it’s no surprise at all that Kanye West has now hopped aboard the Balmain train. Sadly, the Balmain Homme train.

Launched only back in January, at the height of his newfound career as creative director at Balmain, Christophe Decarnin launched Balmain Homme. A line of clothing for men that parallels his womenswear looks that you can hold responsible for making Shoulder pads, ripped denim, and bleaches stains cool again. Even though there was a lot of buzz and excitement before the 10 piece Fall 2009 collection came about, once seen, it drew in mixed reviews. More bad than good. Leaving me and surly many others to wonder, will anyone actually pay for it…?

Which is where Kanye West comes in. Getting in some last minute Christmas shopping in at Barney’s New York in Los Angeles, the rapper (on the road to redemption) was seen sporting an oversized version of a graphic print Balmain Homme Fall 2009 tee. Which just so happens to be the same t-shirt he wore after leaving the Jay Leno show back in September (for those of you keeping track). Making for a move that I’m sure makes Decarnin’s Parisian heart tremble with excitement.

For those of you intrested, the printed white version, shown in the Balmain presentation, is now on sale at Antonioli.eu. Priced at $235.00.

How does this make you feel?

Givenchy Spring 2010 – Simon Nessman, Emil Dostovic, Eduardo Calero & by Mert & Marcus

Not only do Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott photograph the Gucci Spring 2010 campaign, the duo has also taken up the task of capturing Riccardo Tisci’s acid trip prints and high contrast colors.

Shooting a cast of Givenchy regulars, all no strangers to the house’s Paris runway, last season’s bowl cuts and bedroom get swapped out for a basic studio and interesting widow’s peak (on Simon Nessman). Which may or may not remind you of Eddie Munster…

Below I count 2 women and 4 men. Though the campaign supposedly features a cast of 3 men.

Can you spot the tattooed missing link? *Update – it’s Eduardo Calero*
