Gianfranco Ferré Spring 2011 Men’s

Assembling collections that can each season be best summed up by the term, ‘soft structure’, for Spring 2011, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi now focus on creating a sense of fluidity and modern ease for the Gianfranco Ferré man.

Maximizing comfort with the use of silks and linens, in pastels shades and muted summer hues based around beige, as well as camel colors, the house’s signature double-breasted suit is reworked in a looser fit, made to lighten it’s severity.

Achieving a relaxed image without looking towards roll-up pant bottoms for help, the duo instead taper trousers by adding buttons to their ends, creating new shapes in familiar patterns and fabrics.

Pairing jacquard prints with basics, leaving tops to hang form the inners of both shorts and pants, as belts are tied instead of tucked, the Ferré man is prepped for a easygoing day seaside at his Italian villa, with lightweight tunic billowing in the breeze.

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring 2011 Men’s

The beautiful coastlines of the Cinque Terre and the Côte d’Azur were the birth places of Massimiliano Giornetti’s inspiration for his Spring 2011 show at Salvatore Ferragamo.

The collection was perfect for the man spending his summer days in the Mediterranean. It was chock full of breezy separates including luxurious cardigans in creamy tones and a duffle jacket done in terry cloth. There were also Bermuda shorts and loose fitted trousers combined with an array of woven knit pieces, safari shirts, and crossover jackets. The leather Grecian sandals were a great addition to the show. The assortment of looks were done in a palette of neutrals with a few pops of blue that brought to mind the sand and the surf.

The models were dressed to the nines in the label’s signature Italian chic, this time around it was infused with an easy elegance. This 1920s inspired show was all the Riviera spirit one could want for spring 2011 and more.

Versace Fall 2010 – Marcel Castenmiller & Tomek Szczukiecki by Mario Testino

After diverging into a hardcore, Tron influenced, direction for Fall 2010, Mario Testino shoots Versace newcomers, Marcel Castenmiller and Tomek Szczukiecki, in the house’s latest campaign.

Putting emphasis on the collection’s dominating displays of zipped and woven leather in slimmer fits, straightforward poses with an edgier than normal crop of lengthy-haired guys help to put you in the mindset of Donatella’s draw of inspiration from the upcoming Disney sci-flick.

D&G Spring 2011 Men’s

Italian designers Dominico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana certainly know how to take us on a journey, from last season’s trip to Aspen they moved on to the Eastern Seaboard as inspiration for their Spring 2011 showing for D&G.

The Americana influences could be traced as early as the first look, a look that included a Hawaiian shirt, a staple in so many men’s wardrobes. I give the designers credit for making it better than almost all of the previous Hawaiian shirts I’ve seen, even though that shouldn’t have been a hard task. The American influences came ever more apparent with the second look. This look included a green-checked bomber jacket that looked like it was cut out of the fabric from a picnic blanket. The more localized Eastern Seaboard influences popped up with a red, cable-knit sweater tied around the neck over a red gingham shirt. The show was done in an array of classically American fabrics ranging from seersucker to denim. I would like to give credit to the designers, again, for making some of the most wearable denim separates during the Milan leg of Spring 2011 fashion week.

The collection was perfect for the Mad Men‘s Don Draper when he wanted to look casual but put together (Janie Bryant take note). Don Draper wouldn’t be the only one perfect for this collection, today’s man would look classic and superb in any pieces from this collection.
